A Riverside Park Maternity Session | Findlay Maternity Photographer

A Sweet Mama, a Disposable Camera, and a Maternity Session That Was Meant to Be

I love how the universe brings the right people into our lives at just the right time. A little while ago, I was scrolling through our local Findlay Neighbors Helping Neighbors Facebook group when I saw a post from a mama-to-be named Salma. She was looking for someone who could develop film from a disposable camera because she wanted to take some of her own maternity photos.

Now, I could’ve just kept scrolling, but her post stuck with me—probably because I had the perfect solution. See, I have this fun little lens called the Pocket Dispo, which is literally made from an old disposable camera lens but works on my fancy Canon R6. It gives that dreamy, nostalgic film look, but with all the perks of a professional camera. So, I sent her a message and said, “Hey, I have an idea… want to do a modeling session for some maternity photos?” Thankfully, she said yes!

We met up at Riverside Park, which is not only one of the prettiest spots in Findlay but also holds a little nostalgia for me—I had my own senior pictures taken at the waterfall there over 10 years ago (cue the “I’m old” moment). The sky was looking super sketchy on the drive over—dark clouds, strong winds, the whole dramatic setup—but thankfully, the rain held off, and we ended up with the most gorgeous session.

We started with some photos using the Pocket Dispo lens for that vintage vibe and then switched to my usual style for some classic, glowing maternity portraits. Salma and her husband, Josiah, were just the sweetest, and by the time we wrapped up, I felt like I had made a new friend. She was even kind enough to invite me to her baby shower! Sadly, I had to miss it because #momlife—two of my little ones were sick that weekend—but the invite seriously meant so much to me.

The best part? Salma and I are already planning her newborn session! She’s booked me for a posed newborn session once baby arrives, which is extra exciting because I’m diving back into offering those again. She’s even giving me a little extra time to get back into my groove—talk about a dream client!

If you’re expecting and thinking about maternity or newborn photos, now’s the time to book! The second trimester is the perfect sweet spot to plan your maternity session and lock in your newborn session date, so you don’t have to stress later. Just shoot me a message, and let’s make some magic happen!

I just can’t wait to meet Salma’s little one soon—stay tuned for those newborn photos! And what about you? Have you ever used a disposable camera? What’s the last thing you remember taking photos of with one?

Warmly,

Paige
